A Smoothie Recipe To Make You Smarter

Now that I have your attention, I will share with you the secret ingredient of this smart smoothie recipe — lecithin. Have you ever heard of it? If you’ve ever eaten eggs (including the yolks), sunflower seeds, fish, legumes, grape seed or wheat germ, then you’ve definitely had lecithin.

Lecithin is a wonderful component of these foods because it is mainly made up of a brainy substance called phosphatidylcholine. In fact, when it comes to chemistry, the word lecithin is even used interchangeably with phosphatidylcholine.

Why is it so brainy?

Lecithin is literally a component of the myelin sheath, the thin covering that layers our brain cells and spinal cord to protect them from damage. Not only that, but some studies have shown that one of the benefits of lecithin is to facilitate cell signaling, which means that it keeps your cells talking or communicating with each other to improve body functions.

Scientists believe that lecithin’s side effects include a possible cure for conditions involving cognition, or those that affect the mental processes used to acquire, maintain, retrieve, and utilize information, due to the fact that it is a major component in the structure of myelin sheath and nerve cells. (Translation: It makes you smarter!)

What else can lecithin do?
Not only is lecithin brainy, it also helps your body emulsify fat.As a component of bile, lecithin emulsifies the fat in that breakfast you had this morning. Have you ever noticed how fats are subject to temperature change? For example, when butter is exposed to a low temperature, it is in a semi-solid state. But when exposed to high temperature, it turns completely liquid. Now just imagine what would happen to our body if our fats, or lipids, were subject to the slightest change in temperature. That is why one of the benefits of lecithin is its emulsifying action, which keeps fats properly balanced and maintained. Some experts say that lecithin helps people lose weight, too — now that’s an added bonus.

This barely scratches the surface on the importance of lecithin in our body. It really is a magic ingredient!

Before an exam, I would either drink this smoothie or eat 2 soft-boiled organic eggs for breakfast and I am sure that it made me smarter. Truthfully, this was my secret weapon and I’ve never shared it with anyone until now.
